Creating the Perfect Wardrobe

  1. Wear clothes that flatter YOUR shape.  Notice that I capitalized YOUR.  Sometimes it takes someone's unbiased opinion to help you choose what fits your body.  If you are unsure, a friend's advice can help you achieve your goal of looking great.  Also, trying on different styles of clothing and taking pictures is a big plus!  Pinning different outfits with you showing various styles and outfits on Instagram and Pinterest and asking others which looks better A or B is definitely a new way of getting a friends input that may not be with you.  And if you just love to take pictures like me it's a way to meet new people and see what they are thinking about different styles.  I am totally a SOCIAL MEDIA addict!  Another way to know for certain if an outfit looks good on you is....wait for it.... to simply look in the mirror.  I know you are look I didn't think of that lol!  But to be honest looking in the mirror before you purchase something or leave the house is a MUST.  OAN...I am talking about a Full Length Mirror.  Have you ever asked yourself, "I wonder did they look in the mirror before they left the house looking like that?"  You don't want the next person to ask that about you..Do you?  I'm sure you don't.
  2. Stick to classic cuts.  Most of the time classic looks are based from effortless style.  What I mean by that is those classics can get you that job you have been wanting, that man you have had your eyes on, that position you've always wanted, etc.  Dressing in the latest trends just means you follow the latest fashion news and you probably spent a lot of time on that outfit.  Don't get it twisted...nothing is wrong with that but classic looks will last for years.  The latest trend may be hot this fall and so yesterday next fall.  An example for women, ruffle blouses, have been the trend for some time now but they were non existent for awhile.  Compared to the white classic button down shirt.  For men, an example of a hot trend now would be the skinny jeans.  Who knows how long this fad would last.  Loose fitting jeans will always be classics for men.  I really could go on and on.
  3.  Choose neutral colors and bold accents.  Muted colors include tan, black, white, denim/navy blue, and gray.  Accent colors include most shades of red, many shades of blue, plum/eggplant purple, golden yellow, and emerald green.  Be weary of greens and yellows.  As far as oranges, you may want to avoid because they are sure to be out of fashion.
  4. Avoid busy prints, textures, and tiny prints.  Busy prints and textures such as fuzzy, fluffy, feathered fabrics can quickly make an outfit look outdated and unstylish because they tend to be more of a fashion for one season or two and the next season will be another pattern.  Look effortlessly stylish for decades not months!
  5. Buy strategically.  You can make inexpensive clothes look expensive, but sometimes investing in actual expensive clothing is not a bad idea.  Classic pieces such as the cashmere sweater, wool, or leather coat, can take your wardrobe up a notch.  Having a limited number of nicer items is sometimes more preferable than to have a large number of cheap looking items.
  6. Create an interchangeable collection.  You  want to create a wardrobe where all the pieces match each other.  This will let you get dressed based on comfort, style preference, or weather conditions, instead of being limited by color or style combinations.
  7. Take care of your clothes.  No stains, holes, loose threads, wrinkles, etc.  Keep your clothes clean and folded.  Store them correctly and do basic maintenance such as adding a button that may have popped.
  8. Get your items tailored.  Most famous people and models look stylish because their clothes fit them so perfectly.  It's like that dress or outfit was made especially for them.  Most likely it did not come from the store like that.  They have a tailor right there to fix any imperfections.  I suggest you look for an inexpensive tailor shop in your area.  Some department starts offer their services as well, one of them being Burlington's Coat Factory in my area.

Jumpers....Transition from Summer to Fall!

Hello Fashionistas!
Yesterday I went to the mall to take advantage of this tax free weekend.   I didn't really get much.  Come to think of it, I actually haven't gone to the mall in a while.  I am more of an online shopper.  However,  I did visit stores like New York & Company,  Dillards, Rainbow, Payless and Macy's.  I was a little impressed with some things I saw like this color blocking jumper I saw in Rainbow.  Although the summers down here in the south lasts a little longer than up north, the jumper is a great piece that will transition you from Summer to Winter.  You can wear it bare in the summer and layer it with a light jacket for the fall season.  I always liked those pieces I can wear in more than one season; makes me feel like I am getting my money's worth.   You can pair the jumper with either sandals in the summer or your favorite heels on the winter.
I hope this article helps you for the next time you go shopping!

(5) SHOES EVERY WOMAN SHOULD OWN

Shoes can make or break any outfit.  To avoid the embarrassment and uncertainty, here are 5 classic pairs that can get you though any occasion and are a must have for your wardrobe.

  1.  Black Ankle Boots.  Ankle boots are multi purpose shoes.  The long boots can not be worn with everything.  You can check out my video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfP3h-_Iuls&list=TL71D3lSVTrqhi55Rf1PtvbdCvcadu28ux.  These ankle boots can be worn with dresses, that awesome form fitting pant suit for the courtroom or for the boardroom.  Even that great pair of jeans.
  2. Coloured Ballet Flats.  Black ballets will always be a classic go to shoe, however if your whole wardrobe will look like you attend funerals for a living, full of black...coloured ballet flats add that pop of color you need in your shoe game and wardrobe.  This season is full of berry hues, oranges, silver, and metallic gold.
  3. Cork Wedges.  Comfortable, classic, and classy are the words I have to describe wedges.  Not every female can walk in 6" stilettos all day.  Wedges give you the stability you need as well as the comfort needed for daily wear.
  4. Black Heels.  This is the staple shoe.  The ultimate classic shoe.  A match for more outfits than we can ever imagine.  So if you spend a little more on these, it is OK to splurge a little.  It is a worthy investment that can last for years.  With these heels, you want to pick the heel that you are comfortable with.  If a 3" heel is perfect for you then so be it.  Grab you a pair!  Also when looking to invest in your black heels, if you prefer thicker heels, go for the more thicker heel.  Other things you should look for are pointed or round toe, a thicker sole, etc.  Make sure if you are making this your investment shoe that it has all qualities that you want in a shoe.  If it doesn't...DO NOT PURCHASE THEM!
  5. Nude Pumps.  Nude pumps give the illusion of longer legs.  Perfect for many occasions.  They also look great with jeans, dresses, suits and more.

End of Season Clothing...You Can Wear Now and in the Spring

Hi everyone!  It's me the PkFashionsista!!  It's the beginning of the year and I hope everyone's New Year is beginning with a bang!  Many of you are experiencing cold weather, even here in Louisiana we are experiencing cold weather.  We have only had maybe 3 freezing days but other than that, the weather here has been perfect.  I wanted to give you some tips on what to wear when transitioning from now to Spring.

Now I am a Fashion Stylist, and you may think that every season I shop looking for new stuff for myself and my clients but ummm no that is not true.  I believe that when you do your fall shopping it should transition to spring as well.  For example, cashmere sweaters.  During this time of the year you can wear your undies like your tank tops underneath, then in the Spring you probably will not have too.  It kind of depends on the weather in your area.  Faux leather is really hot this season and will continue in the Spring.  Since I am in the south, I have 1 winter coat and 1 leather coat.  That is pretty much all I need.  I have about 10-15 different color thin sweaters so that I can always layer it on those colder days.

Let me know how you transition from Winter to Spring in your area by commenting below.

WAYS TO KNOW IF A COLOR IS RIGHT FOR YOU

Although I can not meet all of you and do a full in depth analysis on all of you, I really wish I could though, I am going to give you some basic tips you should consider when finding your "Color(s)".

1.  Check your mood.  That red sweater might have been perfect when you were in a great mood, perfect hair day, you got your paycheck earlier than you thought, your bff is taking you to dinner because you are such a great friend blah blah blah but that red sweater might not be perfect when that check arrived a day later, the kids missed the bus, and now you have to bring them to school, you are late for work once again, and the boss is looking at you funny because you are on a 30 day probation for always being late, husband not talking to you because dinner was not done when he got home at 5, called your bff and she went out on a hot date with her new bf....Oh I can go on LOL.  Anyway you get my drift.  As I mentioned earlier red represents jolly and vibrant.

2.  Choose a lead piece and go from there.  The last thing you need is to have all your pieces competing against one another.  Choose that one piece which can be an accessory like a bright red or mustard yellow handbag, and combine it with a toned down metallic shoe or pair it with metallic accents.

3.  Pair your bold accessories with basics.  Since your bold accessories already are eye catching, pair them with classic pieces.

Please leave your comments, questions, and tips below.

IS "SKINNY" OVERATED?

Lately I have been seeing all these products out here with the word "skinny" on them.  Is this something retailers/advertisers have come up with to try to entice us to use their products and immediately we will become "skinny?"  Now I am asking because I would not dare try it because I am one step away from disappearing, but I do have my curvy diva customers and they are always looking for ways to lose weight without the medical procedures or the pills that with the side effects of blindness, stroke, cancer, losing a limb and Lord knows what else.  LOL  Here is the list of stuff I found...Has anyone tried any of these?  Let me know what the skinny hype is about.

1.  Skinny Girl Drink
2.  Skinny Cow (Nestle Ice Cream Bars)
3.  Skinny Popcorn
4.  Skinny Chef (different flavors)
5.  Skinny Buns
6.  Skinny Girl Pretzels (Granola Bars)

HOW TO WEAR COLOR & LOOK GREAT; COLOR TIPS TO GIVE YOU A FASHION EDGE

Colored clothing is popular in all seasons.  Bold, bright colors give a youthful and energetic look.  Bright clothes can certainly cheer anyone up and will draw lots of attention.

No matter what size you are, colors would look great on you.  The trick is finding "your" color.  In this blog, I am going to give you some tips to help you achieve your color.

If you do not want to stand out in a crowd but you have a colorful edge, something as simple as a handbag, scarf or hat would do the job very well.  Another way to add color would be to wear a colorful top under your suit jacket.  Wearing a chunky "statement necklace", huge necklace that speaks for itself, is another way of adding color but keeping it simple.  You can have a plain outfit and that necklace can scream "ATTENTION!"  Colorful shoes/sandals can also spice up an outfit.

If you are short, it is better not to wear shoes the same color as your outfit preferably suits, dresses, etc.  because you will look shorter than you are.

Remember, colors draw attention so wherever you put color, it will attract attention to that area.  So if you have colorful open tow shoes, attention will be on your feet and legs so make sure you are confident in that area and also make sure that your feet are polished and you have a great pedicure.

When choosing colors, take your skin tone into consideration.  Warm colors such as yellow, red, and orange look great on most skin tones.

If you would like to add your questions or comments below, please do so.

THE COLORS YOU WEAR, AND WHAT MESSAGE ARE YOU SENDING???

The colors you wear pretty much can non verbally tell how a person is feeling and it can describe a person's personality.  For instance, if you are wearing red or yellow, you are most likely to get spotted quicker than say if you wearing black or brown colors.  Colors such as red and yellow are "attention getters."

If you are wearing these colors more than likely you are outgoing, confident, warm, and have a high self esteem.  If you have blue clothes on, you look dependable, secure, and subtle.  Green will be a hot color this season.  Green is considered a positive color often associated with money and the environment.  Green is also thought to be cool and refreshing.  If you are meeting someone and you want to send the message that you are honest, down to earth, informal, or laid back, you color choice should be brown.

Other colors and their significance is gray, which is associated with sincerity, black which signifies power, and white, which represents honesty and purity.

These are just a few generalizations on how people react to specific colors.  Keep in mind that different shades of color can have a different impact or reaction when you wear them.

DIY on How to Treat a Dry, Itchy Scalp

When washing my hair the other day, I noticed that my scalp was a white color.  It looked like I had not fully rinsed all of my shampoo which that was not true.  I find that every time I wash my hair my scalp looks like this.  Well I have the solution for all my dry scalp divas.  Look in your kitchen and see if you have some vinegar.  If you do, grab a measuring cup and pour 1/2 cup vinegar in it.  Pour the vinegar in a small bowl or container and then pour 1/3 cup of just regular water into your vinegar mixture.  Stir for 30 seconds.  Then rub your mixture or massage your mixture on your scalp.  You should see the whiteness disappearing.  Let stand on your hair for about 5 minutes then rinse with your favorite conditioner.  Now this did stink a little when I did it but my scalp felt so much better and most of all, it looked better.  I didn't see any flakes or whiteness.  Ladies when I say this helps, I am very serious!

HOME REMEDIES TO HELP REMOVE DANDRUFF

Ever just washed and your hair and you still see dandruff and you rewash it and YES IT'S STILL THERE!!!  That has happened to me numerous times.  Well I have some tips for you.  You may not even have to step out the house, these products may be all in your kitchen!

First off I want to say that adding more vegetables and fruits to your diet contributes to less dandruff.  Spicy and greasy foods help dandruff to increase and spread.

A mixture of coconut oil and lemon juice with apple cider vinegar to your hair is an effective treatment for dandruff and furthermore, it will make your head smell good.

Washing your hair with rubbing alcohol gets rid of dandruff.  It also makes your hair soft and clean.

Rubbing rosemary oil or olive oil and crushed rosemary leaves into your scalp and letting it sit for about 15 minutes will also help eliminate dandruff.

Rubbing pure coconut oil in your hair daily will help eliminate dandruff.  Using this method, your dandruff should be gone in a few days.

Lastly but certainly not least, apply 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar and 1/2 water to the scalp and let it dry.

Try these tips and let me know what you think.  So far this is doing wonders for me.
